أَللهُ لآ إِلٰـهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَلاَ يَؤُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ

 

Allaahu laailaaha illaa huwa al-ḥayyul-qayyoomu laa-takhudhuhu-sinatun walaa-nawmun lahu maafee-l-samaawaati wamaa fee-l-arḍ man-dhaalladhee yashfa`u `indahu illaa bi’idhnihi ya`lamu maa bayna aydeehim wa maa khalfahum wa laa yuḥeetoona bishay’in min `ilmihi illaa bimaa shaa’ wasi`a kursiyyuhu l-samaawaati wal-arḍa wa laa ya’ooduhu ḥifẓuhumaa wa huwal-`aliyyu l-`aẓeemu.^[1]

 

Allah is HU! There is no God (deity), only HU! The Hayy and the Qayyum (the sole source of life and the One who forms all things in His Knowledge with the meanings of His Names – the One with whom everything subsists). Neither drowsiness overtakes Him (separation from the worlds even for a single instance) nor sleep (leaving creation to its own accord and withdrawing to His Self). To Him belongs everything in the heavens and on earth (the dimensions of knowledge and acts). Who can intercede in His sight except by the permission of the forces that manifest from the Names in one’s essence? He knows the dimension in which they live and the dimension they are unable to perceive... Nothing of His knowledge can be grasped if He does not will (allow via the suitability of the Names in one’s essence). His throne (sovereignty and administration [Rububiyyah]) encompasses the heavens and the earth. It is not difficult for Him to preserve them. He is the Aliy (illimitably supreme) and the Azim (possessor of infinite might).

 

The Rasul of Allah (saw) says: “There is a verse inside the chapter al-Baqarah that is the chief of all the verses in the Quran… If there are devils (negative energies) inside a house and this verse is recited they will definitely leave. This verse is the Ayat al-Qursi.”^[2]

And:

“Everything has a peak. The peak of the Quran is the chapter al-Baqarah, inside of which there is a verse that is the chief of all verses… The Ayat al-Qursi!”^[3]

One day, the Rasul of Allah (saw) asked his companion Abu Munzir who was next to him: “Do you know which of the verses in Allah’s book is the greatest?” Abu Munzir answered, “Allahu la ilaha illa huwal hayyul qayyum…” “O Abu Manzur!” said the Rasul of Allah (saw) “Blessed may be for you knowledge!”^[4]

There are countless other hadith that talk about the sublimity of the Ayat al-Qursi, most of them advise its recital immediately after salat, that is straight after performing the fardh of the five salats every day.

Many narrations have also been made as to the importance of reciting the Ayat al-Qursi upon entering a house, exiting a house, before commencing an important task and before going to bed.

Reciting it seven times in the morning provides protection against various possible harms that may occur during the day. The most effective way of reading it is to read and blow each one in every six directions around our body, that is, to the right, left, front, back, top and bottom, and then to read the seventh one and breath it in deeply.

Finally, those who are experienced in this field have also reported the amazing benefits of reciting this verse, which significantly increases one’s spiritual strength, forty thousand times.
