74 - Al-Muddathir
"Audhu billahi minash shaytanirrajeem"
Bismi Llaahi l-raḥmaani l-raḥeem
-
Ya ayyuha almuddaththiru;
O wrapped one (Muddathir);
-
Qum faanthir;
Arise and warn!
-
Warabbaka fakabbir;
Realize the magnificence of your Rabb!
-
Wathiyabaka fatahhir;
Purify your garments (consciousness – brain)!
-
Waalrrujza faohjur;
Refrain from uncleanliness (duality, misevaluation)!
-
Wala tamnun tastakthiru;
And do not engage in good to acquire more (with greed)!
-
Walirabbika faisbir;
Be patient for your Rabb!
-
Faitha nuqira fee alnnaqoori;
When that trumpet is blown (death, resurrection);
-
Fathalika yawmaithin yawmun AAaseerun;
It will be a difficult time, indeed!
-
AAala alkafireena ghayru yaseerin;
Not easy at all for those who deny (cover) the knowledge of the reality!
-
Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheedan;
So leave me (to deal) with the one I created alone;
-
WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdoodan;
The one whom I granted wealth;
-
Wabaneena shuhoodan;
And sons standing before him;
-
Wamahhadtu lahu tamheedan;
And enabled the experience of expansive abundance!
-
Thumma yatmaAAu an azeeda;
Yet he (greedily) wants me to increase it for him!
-
Kalla innahu kana liayatina AAaneedan;
Never! Indeed, he is very stubborn against Our signs.
-
Saorhiquhu saAAoodan;
I will subject him to an arduous uphill climb.
-
Innahu fakkara waqaddara;
Indeed, he reflected and decided!
-
Faqutila kayfa qaddara;
May he die (and see the reality)! How he decided!
-
Thumma qutila kayfa qaddara;
Again, may he die (and see the reality)! How he decided!
-
Thumma nathara;
Then he looked.
-
Thumma AAabasa wabasara;
Then he frowned and scowled!
-
Thumma adbara waistakbara;
Then he turned his back and became arrogant!
-
Faqala in hatha illa sihrun yutharu;
And he said, “This is nothing other than narrated words of magic!”
-
In hatha illa qawlu albashari;
“It is no other than the words of a mortal!”
-
Saosleehi saqara;
I will subject him to Saqar (painful tormenting fire).
-
Wama adraka ma saqaru;
And what informs you of Saqar?
-
La tubqee wala tatharu;
(Saqar) neither lets anything remain the same, nor does it let anything be!
-
Lawwahatun lilbashari;
It burns and blackens the (flesh of) mortals!
-
AAalayha tisAAata AAashara;
Over it are nineteen!
-
Wama jaAAalna ashaba alnnari illa malaikatan wama jaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheena kafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitaba wayazdada allatheena amanoo eemanan wala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitaba waalmuminoona waliyaqoola allatheena fee quloobihim maradun waalkafiroona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalika yudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashao wama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wama hiya illa thikra lilbashari;
We have appointed only (nineteen) angels (66:6) to be the wardens of the Fire (the hell of corporeality; not a breed of humans or the jinn)... And We specified their number (as if the number nineteen is meaningful) as an (object of) trial for the disbelievers... So, those to whom a Book (knowledge) has been given can know with certainty (what is referenced by these metaphors and thus confirm the revelation of Rasulullah [saw]) and so those who believe (in the nubuwwah and risalah of Rasulullah [saw]) will increase in faith (the knowledge of certainty; ilm al-yakeen) and so those (who acquire solid knowledge) to whom a Book (knowledge) has been given (and those who have attained certainty in faith) do not fall into doubt! And so those in whose hearts there is sickness (doubt, who are devoid of healthy thought) and the disbelievers (who are veiled from and thus deny the reality) can say, “What did Allah intend to reference with this example?”... Thus Allah misguides whom He wills and guides whom He wills. Only HU knows the armies (forces) of your Rabb! This (Saqar and other metaphors) is only a reminder for people.
-
Kalla waalqamari;
No! I swear by the Moon,
-
Waallayli ith adbara;
And the night, when it returns,
-
Waalssubhi itha asfara;
And the morning, when it brightens.
-
Innaha laihda alkubari;
Indeed, it is one of the greatest things!
-
Natheeran lilbashari;
A warning for the people;
-
Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama aw yataakhkhara;
For whoever wants to go forward or stay behind.
-
Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheenatun;
Everyone is bound by the results of their own deeds!
-
Illa ashaba alyameeni;
Except for the people of the right!
-
Fee jannatin yatasaaloona;
They are in Paradises... They ask,
-
AAani almujrimeena;
The guilty ones:
-
Ma salakakum fee saqara;
“What has let you into the Saqar (the entwining fire with immense flames)?”
-
Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleena;
They say, “We were not of those who established (actively experienced) salat!”
-
Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeena;
“Nor did we feed the poor.”
-
Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkhaideena;
“And we indulged (in egotistic pleasures) with those who indulged!”
-
Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi alddeeni;
“And we denied the time of religion (sunnatullah – that recompense will definitely be experienced for all actions)!”
-
Hatta atana alyaqeenu;
“Until finally there came to us certainty (confrontation of the reality)!”
-
Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu alshshafiAAeena;
Then the intercession of the intercessors will not avail them.
-
Fama lahum AAani alttathkirati muAArideena;
What is the matter with them that they turn away from the one who reminds them?
-
Kaannahum humurun mustanfiratun;
They are like wild donkeys running about in fear!
-
Farrat min qaswaratin;
As though fleeing in fear from a lion!
-
Bal yureedu kullu imriin minhum an yuta suhufan munashsharatan;
Perhaps each one of them desires to be given pages (of revelation)!
-
Kalla bal la yakhafoona alakhirata;
No! They do not fear the eternal life to come!
-
Kalla innahu tathkiratun;
No! Indeed, it is but a reminder!
-
Faman shaa thakarahu;
Whoever wills will remember (and evaluate) it!
-
Wama yathkuroona illa an yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu alttaqwa waahlu almaghfirati;
And they cannot remember (and evaluate) unless Allah wills... He enables protection to whom He wills and forgives whom He wills.
